Our Incredible 2014

It’s that time again – our annual year in review post! We’ve had some pretty awesome ones in the last couple years but seeing as we got married in 2014, it was our best so far and definitely going to be a hard one to beat!

Given that we were looking forward to our wedding in Canada in August, we didn’t start our travels until a bit later in the year and kept saying we weren’t going to do much…that changed rather quickly.

March

Matt had a bit of a boys’ month where he went to Edinburgh for Craig’s Stag Do then Bristol for a boys’ weekend. I don’t know much of what went on on those two trips and it’s probably best to keep it that way!

We took on a very extreme approach to the extra long Easter weekend by going to 3 countries/cities in 4 days. It definitely confirmed that train travel is an awesome way to get around Europe but we won’t be doing a weekend that intense again. We also had our first major travel misstep when Matt lost his wallet while we were walking around the city in Luxembourg. From there, we went to Cologne and Amsterdam!

Continuing our theme of crazy weekends, we managed to go completely across Switzerland through the Swiss Alps, eat our body weight in chocolate and even hop into Liechtenstein, all in three days!

Craig and Gerrie kicked off the 2014 wedding season with their wedding on a beautiful estate in Ireland. We even managed to quickly kiss the Blarney Stone on our way to the airport.

We finished the month with our second (and definitely not our last) trip to Norway. It’s still one of my favourite places and it gets better every time we go back. This time we hiked up Preikestolen to get to this sheer cliff with a beautiful view over the fjords.

Cath and I went to Milan for a girls weekend where we ate a lot of gelato and drank cocktails. I didn’t get the time to write about it, but you can read it on her blog!

In preparation for our upcoming wedding, we had our respective hen and stag dos. I’ll leave it at that.

August

Finally wedding month was upon us! We started our trip in the Grand Canyon, then Las Vegas, then headed to Canada where we drove through the Rockies on the way to Vancouver. After spending some time in Gibsons, we headed to Vancouver Island for our wedding. From there, we went to Paris, Ontario, Niagara Falls, and finished our trip with 4 days in New York City. It was an AMAZING trip and I often find myself wishing we were still on it.

5 days after we got back from our month long trip, I headed off to Sitges, Spain for Leah’s hens do. It was actually a great way to spend the first week back with a few of my favourite girls (and meeting a few new ones), hanging by the pool in our villa.

Never leaving.

Matt surprised me with a VIP tour of West Midlands Safari Park for my birthday.

November

We made our second trip to Edinburgh to see the All Blacks play Scotland, this time with a bunch of our friends.

December

We spent 2 weeks back home in NZ roadtripping and spending time with family. We even had an overnight stopover in Incheon which ticked another country off the list!

After getting sorted with our free hotel and meal vouchers, we decided a good night's sleep was probably better than sightseeing (we're actually quite far from Seoul itself). But hey! I got a stamp so it counts as another country ticked off (I'm sure we'l

We’re taking a slightly different approach to travel (and life in general) in 2015 but we’ll leave that for another post!
